I’ve complained in the past about having trouble finding button front shirts that fit me well. Thankfully, I came across a Mimi G pattern that was pretty perfect. But I wanted to add a few more to my rotation and whilst tumbling down an eBay rabbit hole, I came across a vintage pattern that looked like a great fit.
Read MoreI have been following Mimi G for a really long time. And one of the things that I love about her is that she turned her passion into profit. But she’s not trying to keep it all for herself. She’s helping others turn their sewing and design skills into cold American cash by starting the Know Me brand. This brand connects us to some of the funkiest designers out there. I also love that many of them are women, BIPOC and queer.
Read MoreI have had a lot of trouble in finding a good silhouette for blouses for myself…or any top really. For example, I thought I was going to be a cool graphic tee kind of girl, but that just didn’t work out for me. Then I though I could be a peasant top kind of girl, but those never come at the right length and are usually too blousy so I just look bigger than I am. And I don’t need that kind of help. Then I tried doing fitted button front shirts, but they’re never cut right and the ones that fit my midsection are too tight on my boobs and it’s just horrible.
Read MoreWomen’s war era overalls and coveralls just scream empowerment to me. And I have been longing for a pair for quite some time now. But I was really worried that I just don’t have the body type for a Rosie the Riveter realness. My torso is long, my belly is voluminous and generally I’m better suited for a baggy jumpsuit. That didn’t stop me from wanting one.

Read MoreEver since I saw the Central Asian Ikat collection at LACMA, I’ve been lowkey obsessed with the print and anything that resembles it. I came across a knit Ikat on Fabric.com that was the end of the bolt. I think I ordered 3 yards and they sent me 8…just gave the shit away.
Read MoreI’m pretty sure I’ve mentioned this before, but the pandemic made me realize that I needed a lot more loungewear in my wardrobe. I bought a bunch of vintage caftans on eBay and then ran through some super soft onesies from SavageX. Finally I decided to make myself some cute, comfy fits.
Read MoreA few years ago some dear friends went on an Asian tour for their honeymoon. I asked them if they could snag me some fabrics during their travels and they brought back several beautiful prints for me to play with. One of those fabrics I’ve been saving for a special occasion and that occasion finally arrived when our friends Lee and Jasmine jumped the broom.
Read MoreTeam Taylor, a couple that is near and dear to our hearts, went on a tour of Asia for their honeymoon a few years ago and they brought back all types of goodies for me and the hubby. I got a bundle of gorgeous fabrics and hubby got some super soft harem pants and even a smoking jacket style robe.
Read MoreHubby and I have a bit of an obsession with sweatshirts. Like even though we live in SoCal, we both have a pretty extensive collection. And they’re not necessarily designer or anything. There’s just something cool about something so comfortable also looking so fly.
Read MoreI saw this pattern and immediately thought this is something I’d wear if I was a classy lady. I am of course not classy at all. But it’s fun to pretend, right?
Read MoreAt one time I kinda detested jackets because I felt like they made me look weird. The biggest thing on my already big body, is my bust. It’s been this way for years. And when I shop I often buy for my bust and then tailor it down. But jackets are crazy hard to tailor. So I stayed away from them for a LONG time.
Read MoreI recently got rid of a dress that I’d made years ago because it had gotten pretty pilly. I loved that dress because it was like wearing a nightgown. I’ve been without it for maybe 2 months and just had to make another one.
Read MoreOne of my nearest and dearest sister-friends went to Paris for the first time several years ago and while there she was so kind to think of me. She brought me back this really beautiful sheer silk. At the time I had never worked with sheer fabric before and couldn’t think of anything to make with it. Translation: I was scared of sewing with it and messing it up.
Read MoreI’ve been trying to allow myself to be comfortable with wearing different types of garments. I generally would never wear this type of sundress because it gives the world an all access pass to my back fat. I was also concerned about not being able to wear a bra with it. But I decided to just give it a go…and I didn’t turn out half bad.
Read MoreWhen Forever 21 first came out with a Plus line, I bought a denim vest. It was around the same time that I started attending Fashion events in NYC. I wore this denim vest with LITERALLY everything. It became a crutch…when in a bind, throw on the vest. Eventually I realized that it was neither flattering nor age appropriate. It made me look like someone pretending to be a teenager. So, though it was hard, I donated it it…never to see it again.
Read MoreI found this orange and gray polka dot fabric at Rye Canyon Supply Co sometime late last year and I had plans for it by the time I loaded it into the car. I’d had a few patterns I’d wanted to make into coordinates, and I knew this would be the perfect fabric.
Thanks to that, you get a double pattern post…you’re welcome.
Read MoreJumpsuits are a double-edged sword. While they’re so cute and comfortable, you have to get completely nude to tinkle. So I love them, and I hate them. That said I continue to buy and make rompers and jumpsuits with reckless abandon.
