The Road to a #MeMade Wardrobe:  Simplicity 8907

Jumpsuits are a double-edged sword.  While they’re so cute and comfortable, you have to get completely nude to tinkle.  So I love them, and I hate them.  That said I continue to buy and make rompers and jumpsuits with reckless abandon.

One of the main issues I’ve run into when finding a good onesie to wear, has been that my torso is long And I’m really fluffy about my mid-section.  That means that when I put on a jumpsuit, even if it’s my size, I will inevitably have a cameltoe…100% guaranteed.

So when buying, I always go up a size ot two.  But when sewing I have the freedom to really customize it to fit me properly.  Here’s what I did with this cute little simplicity number.

Pattern: Simplicity Sewing Pattern S8907 Misses' Jumpsuit, Romper, Dresses, and Belt

Fabric: Gray Linen from Rye Canyon Supply Co.

Style: Romper

Vintage/Contemporary:  Contemporary

Pattern Edits:

1. To accommodate for my thick middle, I increased the half girth measurement.  I added two inches to the front and back pant pattern pieces.  I also added an inch to the front and back bodice pieces.  That gave me 6 inches overall added to the half girth.  FYI the half girth (or crotch depth) is the measurement front the front of your natural waist, to the back of your natural waist if you measure through your legs.

2.  The pattern called for the pant front pockets to be sewn into the side seam.  But I wanted to give myself as much pocket as I could.  So I let the pocket wrap around the side of the pant over the seam.

Lessons Learned:

1. I generally don’t like working with linen because it’s sooo wrinkly.  However, I decided to not be scared of it.  I pressed the ever-loving hell out of it and was uber diligent about keeping the seams pressed well as I was constructing it.  It ended up into being as big of a hassle as I thought. I think I’ll be experimenting with different weights of linen and linen blends going forward to see if I can land on my dream linen.

By the by, if you were thinking of trying this pattern out I would say it’s in the simple to intermediate realm
