I have spoken at length about my love-hate relationship with jumpsuits. I think what I love most about them is how they look…on other people. I have this fantasy in my mind about how I think they will look on me. And what tends to happen is that I will purchase or make a jumpsuit and then put it on and be instantly disappointed in how it looks. That said, when I saw this Mimi G pattern I said, maybe this is the one that’s going to look amazing on me.
Read MoreTravis Bickle is a Vietnam vet turned night shift taxi driver, turned almost presidential candidate assassin, turned prostitute protector. He’s an insomniac with PTSD and poor social skills. He has an obsessive personality and really skewed ideas of what it means to be a hero.
Read MoreSomewhere around 2016 or 2017 Aaron and I took a road trip to Rosarito, an area in Baja Mexico, with some friends. While there, we were approached by various vendors on the beach to purchase things like ponchos and blankets. I, while under the influence, took little convincing to purchase a poncho. (Please note, I still have that poncho and I always get compliments on it.) Anyway, Aaron isn’t easily swayed. So we came back across the border without having purchased a Baja jacket for him. But since then he’s been kinda obsessed with them.
Read MoreEvery year (sometimes twice a year) I go through my fabric stash and try to clear out as much clutter as I can. When I come across small cuts of fabric that I can’t seem to part with, I try to find a creative way to use them. So when I found about two yards of these two fabrics, I thought they’d both work for a top. But I didn’t quite have enough of either to finish most of the patterns that I had. But then the engineering part of my brain clicked on, and I realized that if I used both fabrics in one reversible shirt, I wouldn’t have to worry about the extra fabric that I would need for, say, facing pieces.
Read MoreLast year when I was working with Phil Boutte, I’d often come home and tell Aaron about his bomb ‘fits. So Aaron started following him and saw that some of his clothes come from Japanese clothing line, Prospective Flow.
Read MoreThe past several Novembers I’ve been working extra hard to not work hard at all. I had a situation a few years ago where I was running myself ragged and it did NOT turn out well for me. Since then, I’ve decided to take a month off from all things that were totally unnecessary to focus on rest, relaxation and rejuvenation.
Read MoreSome of my earliest remixes were Halloween costumes. I have dragged my hubby, kicking and screaming into some of the best costumes I’ve ever created. We’ve done it for so long now that we’re known for our couple costumes. And now that we have our baby dog, Gloria, she’s gotten in on the action too.

This movie is one of my favorite genres of film, it was you all along! What I call the “it was you all along” genre is any movie with a twist that the main character is COMPLETELY oblivious to even though said twist involves them inherently. Examples of films that fit into this genre are, Memento, The Sixth Sense, Secret Window, Fight Club, The Others…you get the gist.
Read MoreI was out one day and stumbled upon the cutest little plaid shirt for our dog Gloria. Gloria absolutely loves wearing clothes. So whenever I see something cute, I can’t help myself. Anyway, when I got home I noticed that her shirt was very similar to one that Aaron has. So I thought it might be a cute holiday card idea if we were all wearing our flannel finest. There was just one problem…I own zero flannel. I actually have a bit of a sensitivity to flannel fabric. But if it’s soft enough I can get away with wearing it for a bit.
Read MoreLeft Hand Lacey is the character you love to hate and his style borders on the absurd. That said, I have always been in love with the spin on a spectacle chain that he wears. He has glasses that don’t have arms, but instead have a chain and that chain connects to a single earring. BRILLIANT! Ruth E. Carter strikes again.
Read MoreThe Craft is one of those movies that holds a weird and special place in the hearts of any girl who was a teen in the 90’s. Because I’m black, my fave witch was and always will be Rachel True’s character, Rochelle. I coveted her hair. I coveted her skin. And most of all, I coveted her clothes. Thank you Deborah Everton!
Read MoreOut of Africa is an amazing example of a film that is firing on all cylinders. It is a great story, beautiful cinematography, “ass-off” acting and direction and, my personal favorite, costumes that help mold these characters. All of that aside, this movie is worth the two hours and 41 minutes just for that hair washing scene.

Read MoreConfessions of a Shopaholic, designed by the amazing Patricia Field, is what some folks call a ‘fashion movie.’ Much like Sex & The City (also designed by PF), Confessions of a Shopaholic is a feature length fashion show. It follows Rebecca, the titular shopaholic who ruins nearly every aspect of a girl whose shopping addition nearly ruins all aspects of her life. I’m most fascinated by her label whoring. She doesn’t necessarily go for style…just the name attached to the garment. Patricia Fields did an exquisite job making Rebecca’s looks be really cute and bubbly, like her personality, but also just a smidge off (also like her personality).
Read MoreI love Denzel Washington. I love Walter Mosley. I love Sharen Davis. I love Easy Rawlins. Ergo I love Devil in a Blue Dress. I think the choices that Sharen made when dressing this 1940s vet turned private dick, were brilliant. My favorite piece is not the blue dress that Daphne wears, although it’s beautiful. No, my favorite piece is Easy’s gaberdine zip up jacket.
Read MoreSince I’ve been working on set, I’ve realized that I can never have too many comfortable outfits. I really do love a jumpsuit even though you have to get totally nude just to pee. But when I saw this pattern, I fell in love. I love that it’s open and airy and the pockets make it a real winner.
Read MoreI think one of the hardest genres of film has to be comedy. Right after that I would list contemporary films. A Simple Favor fits into both of those categories. The choices made by Renee Ehrlich Kalfus, the film’s designer, might feel wacky. But they’re perfect if you ask me.
Read MoreThe Karate Kid franchise is ripe with amazing costumes to try to replicate or remix. But I’ve always been drawn to the gis worn by the martial artists. The gi worn Chozen Toguchi and designed by Mary Malin is my all-time favorite. You can tell that he came to show TF out. Is that quilting on your gi? You bet your sweet ass it is!
