The Road to a #MeMade Wardrobe: SIMPLICITY S9554
I have had a lot of trouble in finding a good silhouette for blouses for myself…or any top really. For example, I thought I was going to be a cool graphic tee kind of girl, but that just didn’t work out for me. Then I though I could be a peasant top kind of girl, but those never come at the right length and are usually too blousy so I just look bigger than I am. And I don’t need that kind of help. Then I tried doing fitted button front shirts, but they’re never cut right and the ones that fit my midsection are too tight on my boobs and it’s just horrible.
So I stumbled upon this unisex pattern by Mimi G that seemed like it might me a hit. And boy o boy was it ever. It was such a big hit that my husband somehow got me to make him not just one, but two different shirts out of this pattern.
Pattern: Simplicity S9554 Unisex Shirt in Two Lengths
Fabric: Hubby’s fabric came from Rye Canyon Supply and mine is a Simplicity print from Joann
Style: Button Front Shirt
Vintage/Contemporary: Contemporary
*Note: the fabric that I purchased for myself is no longer available at Joann. But you can find it online on eBay or Etsy with the search terms: Simplicity Swimsuit Cotton Vintage Fabric
Pattern Edits:
1. I only slightly altered the length and girth of the shirt. Because my boobs are so big, if I cut something to fit my boobs and don’t adjust it otherwise, then I end up just looking like a linebacker or apple depending on the top. So I had to take the shirt in a bit and shorten it a bit to make it work for me.
Lessons Learned:
1. Don’t make super cute unisex pieces because you’re husband’s going to bully you to make him some too.
