The Road to a #MeMade Wardrobe:  McCalls 8029

Ever since I saw the Central Asian Ikat collection at LACMA, I’ve been lowkey obsessed with the print and anything that resembles it.  So when I found a lovely Ikat print with a Southwest twist on Fabric.com, I had to jump on it.

I knew I wanted to make a cloak or wrap out of it.  The fabric is so soft, that I wanted to feel like I was wearing a blanket.  I also came across a maize polka dot rayon that would be prefect for the lining.  So I snatched that up too.

Pattern Edits:

1. I didn’t alter the pattern.  I did, however, alter the steps in the pattern instructions.  It felt like the instructions were a bit out of order.  But that’s probably just me being used to just cutting and sewing without even paying attention to the instructions to begin with .

Lessons Learned:

1. I think the lesson for this project is to not assume.  I looked at the pattern pieces and thought I knew what I was doing.  But the shape of the front panels was slightly irregular from what I’m used to looking at so I initially sewed them on all types of wrong.  In fact, as I was pinning it I felt like it was wrong.  But I just kept going without stopping to look at the instructions. It’s important to approach projects with confidence.  But it’s also important to look for help when it’s literally sitting right in front of you.
