The Road to a #MeMade Wardrobe:  McCalls 7726 and Simplicity 8840

I found this orange and gray polka dot fabric at Rye Canyon Supply Co sometime late last year and I had plans for it by the time I loaded it into the car.  I’d had a few patterns I’d wanted to make into coordinates, and I knew this would be the perfect fabric.

Thanks to that, you get a double pattern post…you’re welcome.

Pattern Edits:

1. Like I always do for pants, shorts or jumpsuits, I gave the half girth measurement several inches by increasing the height in the front and back pant panels. I do this to give me room for my long torso and round midsection.

2. I also only added one pocket instead of two. I need large pockets to fit my celly.  And when I initially put in the two pockets it felt like I was doing too much.  So I took one of them out.

Lessons Learned:

1. Asymmetry isn’t so scary after all.  I love the way the pleats on the top fan out asymmetrically.  But felt like I needed to straighten them out, like they wouldn’t look right on me.  I was wrong.  They look just darling and I have to allow myself to try new thing stylistically and as a sewist.

2. I think I’m really learning not just how my body works in relation to patterns, but also, because of working with so many body types at school, I’m leaning how others’ bodies work and what types of adjustments can be made to make garments fit perfectly.

Both of these patterns are intermediate.
