The Road to a #MeMade Wardrobe: Simplicity (8291)

I was really scared to make this dress.  It looks so perfect on Mimi.  But I’m shaped like the Kool-Aid man…if the Kool-Aid man had big ole titties.  Anyway, I love the idea of a form fitting maxi.  But in practice I just end up looking pregnant.  And I don’t need that kinda shit in my life.

But after I stumbled upon a double knit that I felt could hold me in without making me hot, I thought it might be just the fabric for this dress. As usual, I was right.

Pattern Edits:

1. I added a lining to the front of the dress.  This was more functional than anything.  I wanted to insure that the fabric that would be covering my midsection would be stretchy (comfortable) but firm (smoke and mirrors to hide my chub).

2. I made the hem asymmetrical.  This was totally by accident.  I had issues matching up the sides and because of that I ended up cutting the hem ALL THE WAY wrong. I contemplated just shortening the dress and making the hem even.  But after checking myself out, I thought that the fuck up actually worked.  So I kept it.

Lessons Learned:

1. I need to use a marker to mark my notches.  I generally don’t cut notches because I use pinking shears to cut my fabric.  Because of that, it is very difficult to see notches.  So I put pins in the pattern pieces to mark where ethe notches go.  The notches help you match up your pattern pieces to each other.  But I think because of the fabric I was using, the pins fell out.  So when I tried to match up the front of the dress to the back all types of fuckery went down.
