The Road to a #MeMade Wardrobe: McCall’s 6896
I don’t recall when I bought this pattern OR this fabric. But I do know that the fabric was an end cut and only about 2 yards, if that. The pattern is out-of-print, so it has to have been a while ago that I nabbed it. I say all this to say that I’d long forgotten about both.
So whilst sitting home in self-isolation, dreaming about the trip to Jamaica that I was supposed to take, I though, how nice would it be to make myself a tropical inspired garment. I went searching through my stash and found this really cute fabric. But since I had so little of it, I knew I couldn’t make anything elaborate.
Peplums are great because they not only are flattering to most body types, but the design of the pattern is fairly simple. I was considering ordering a pattern but decided to look through my patterns again (I have a lot, so sometimes I miss what I’m looking for in my initial search). What I found was this perfectly simple and super cute pattern that I finished making in literally a day.
Pattern: Misses'/Miss Petite Fit and Flare Tops
Fabric: Tropical Print Cotton Gauze from Hobby Lobby
Style: Peplum Blouse
Vintage/Contemporary: Contemporary
Pattern Edits:
1. Getting the slit in the neckline to lay perfectly was vexing me. So I made some tiny adjustments to so that it’s more square at the base than a V shape. It’s barely noticeable. But it was a necessity to keep me from losing my mind.
Lessons Learned:
1. Notions are really hard to come by in a pandemic. I have found that while doing my therapeutic sewing, I’ve been running out of buttons and elastic and, in the case of this project, zippers. That just gives me an excuse to buy notions in bulk. #sorrynotsorry
This is a really easy pattern. I highly recommend to all levels.
