The Road to a #MeMade Wardrobe: Simplicity 8085

In the summer I basically live in dresses.  And I really love anything with a circle skirt on it.  It’s cool and flowy and I can open my legs and air out my lady space without anyone seeing my bits. So this pattern would fit in perfectly with everything else in my closet.

Pattern Edits:

1. Like I do with basically everything I make, I added a lining.  I will do this even if a lining isn’t even necessary. There’s something about a lining that makes the garment feel more finished.

2.  I left the bias tape alone. About a year or so ago, I was really into bias tape, so much so that I bought tools to make my own.  But I soon learned that bias tape is basically the devil and working with it will literally drive you insane.  So when I saw it being used on this garment I was like, nope, no thanks, fuck you bias tape…fuck you indeed.

Lessons Learned:

1. Everything doesn’t have to be perfect.  I was driving myself nuts trying to match up the pattern on the fabric.  And because the skirt is a circle skirt and four pieces, matching up the pattern is virtually impossible UNLESS you have like 80 yards. And ain’t nobody got time OR money for that. So, I just let go of the idea of matching it.  In the end it didn’t even matter.  I was causing myself unnecessary anxiety when I ended up with a cute ass dress without all the stress.
