The Road to a #MeMade Wardrobe:  Vogue 1632

When I saw this pattern I wasn’t sure what I was going to use it for. But I knew I had to have it.  Once I bought it, I decided to use it for a holiday party or winter wedding.  I’m so thankful to have been invited to be a part of the Jones-Quartey/Sugar wedding.  The velvet I used was both light and thick enough to be comfortable to be worn during LA winters.

Pattern: MISSES' TOP, DRESS AND PANTS

Fabric: Red Stretch Crushed Velvet from Joann’s

Style: Rushed Flounce Dress

Vintage/Contemporary:  Contemporary

Pattern Edits:

1. The skirt of the dress is a circle flounce pattern that basically looks like a big “C.” I didn’t like what the skirt looked like in the front, the wrong side of the fabric kept showing.  So I took redraped the skirt until it looked just right, cut off the excess fabric, then reattached it.

Lessons Learned:

1. Clear understanding of notches is important.  This pattern was a littler more difficult than I’m used to.  There were so many notches and I started to lose track of what each notch was for.  Because I was working with so many layers with the ruched panels, this made constructing the bodice a nightmare. The next time I work on a pattern with a similar level of difficulty, I may use a color coded chalk system to keep track of everything.
