Some dear friends of ours got hitched this past weekend and I just HAD to make something for their big day.

I wanted to wear something that was hip and young and colorful and for the culture.  Because I feel all those things represent the couple that I was going to celebrate.  And I must say that I pulled it off.

Pattern Edits:

1. The only edit I made was adding a lining in the bodice.  But that’s something I always do with dresses, so at this point it isn’t really an edit as much as a signature move on my part.

Lessons Learned:

1. I made this dress in less than two days.  It really was about 8 hours total.  I only rushed it because I only had three days to work on it.  I generally don’t push myself that hard because I like to burn out.  But I’ve had a busy couple of months and I didn’t start thinking about working on this until about a week before the wedding. So yea, not doing that again.

2. When I was about 95% done with the dress and about to install the zipper I tried it on for a quick fitting and there was something disturbing happening.  The bodice was pushed up.  It looked like I should have boobs on my shoulders.  I immediately panicked. I ran to the store and found a jumpsuit.  It was cute but not what I wanted to wear at all.  Something told me to just finish the dress.  I might be able to sell it to someone…you know, someone with boobs for shoulders. But lo an behold when I tried it on after the zipper installation, it fit almost perfectly.  I had to do one adjustment but otherwise it was gorge.  What had happened was, the back of the dress flops down, that is, it doesn’t zip all the way up to the neck.  When I tried it on (without the zipper, I was pulling it close at the neck, creating the shoulder/boob affect.  Usually my lesson is to listen to my instincts.  But this time the lesson was to listen to the patter.  I can’t win for losin’.
