T-Shirt Redeux: Upcycling a Men’s XL Tee

I really love graphic tees because I find that they can go with damn near anything, a pair of cute jeans, a leather skirt, coochie cutter shorts, anything.  But buying t-shirts really suck for me.  I’ve got huge knockers and have to buy all of my clothes to fit that part of me.  As a result, I end up altering a bunch of my clothes. T-shirts are not exempt.

So when looking for graphic tees I’ll check the mens section as well.  If I’m going to have to alter it regardless I may as well not limit my search. The men’s section is exactly where I found this “Slay” t-shirt.  I ordered it from Forever21’s clearance section for $7.  When the shirt arrived, per usual, it fit my boobs just great but the rest of me was basically swimming in it. I tried to tie it up in a knot and tuck the knot under.  But that was super uncomfortable.  And then I said to myself, “Self, you simple fool…just alter it.”

At first, I was going to do a straight boxy crop.  But I felt that because of the size of the shirt, if I did a straight crop, it might shift too much and show off my tittays.  Also, there is wording on the back of the shirt that goes all the way to the bottom.  So instead I opted for a high/low top.

I folded the shirt in half longways and used pins to map out where I would cut.

Then after making sure the shirt was completely even, I cut about an inch down from where I’d marked with the pins.

I ironed the hem and pinned it, then sewed it in place.

That’s it.  It was simple AF.  It took me about 20 minutes.  And I can’t wait to wear it because it’s so stinking cute.
