Simplicity’s 90th Anniversary Celebration

I was privileged to attend Simplicity’s 90th Anniversary celebration at El Cid in Los Angeles this past month.

Simplicity partnered with Mimi G of MimiGStyle to host the event. Mimi G is a style influencer whom I’ve followed for several years because I really admire her craftiness and her super smooth style.  She’s not only adorable AF, but she’s super talented and she has etched for herself, a place in the DIY industry that I one day hope to rival.

The event was attended by DIY-Divas and fashionistas from all over the LA area.  There were signature drinks like The Seam Ripper and Tracing Paper that were complimentary and dumb delish.

The event breaks down as follows…

After attendees got their drinks and were seated, Deborah (or Auntie Deb as I’ve decided to call her), the Design Development Director for Simplicity, took the stage.  She led us on a walk down memory lane with interesting history and facts about the company that she’s worked with for several decades.  She brought out models who showed off recreations of modern versions of past Simplicity patterns.

We were also treated to a dancing duo who gave us routines from yesteryear.

During interludes and after the presentation, Mimi G, who, has recently worked with Simplicity on her own line of patterns, was available to take pictures and speak with everyone.

I talked to her for a few minutes, after being encouraged to by the new friend I met at the event, Kiana, and I was so happy she forced me out of my comfort zone. *Please note: I get super awkward and weird around celebrities, particularly people that I really admire. So it took TWO Tracing Papers and a hard shove from Kiara to get me to talk to Mimi.

Mimi was oh so gracious, sweet, welcoming, open, and nice.  She was just the kind of celeb that you want to meet.

Oh, and did I mention that I walked away with a ridiculous goody bag?! Yes girl, the attendees were treated to a lovely canvas gift bag with a vintage simplicity pattern printed on it, a cute magnet, several stationary cards and a pattern.  I’m actually currently working on making the turban…stay tuned for pics of that at a later date.

Thanks to Simplicity for the invite.  Thanks to Kiara for the hearty shove.  Thanks to Mimi for being so kickass and awesome!
